Report from the 3rd Asian IAESTE Forum
The 3rd Asian IAESTE Forum was held in the exotic town of Manipal, Karnataka, India from 9th November to 12th November,2012. IAESTE IndiaMIT, a co-operating institution from India, and Manipal University hosted the 4 day event wherein delegates from 13 countries participated in the forum. The delegates were not only from the Asian continent but also European countries took active part in the forum. The total participants were 23 in number including the IAESTE a.s.b.l board, Representatives of various Indian Universities who showed interest in opening Local Committee at their institutions, IAESTE Country Development Manager, SID and IDT co-ordinators were also in attendance.
The main aim of the forum was to promote expansion of IAESTE in India. As of now, India has two co-operating institutions, IAESTE IndiaMIT and IAESTE Karunya University. The two universities came together for the first time to collaborate so as to help develop the other Indian Universities in the IAESTE mainstream. The formation of National Committee of India is also on the cards. Both the institutions combined, exchange the maximum number of offers than any other Asian country, with IndiaMIT successfully exchanging over 115 offers.
SID and IDT co-ordinators also held sessions at the forum. Mentoring session was also conducted in which the delegate from Afghanistan, who is trying to start IAESTE program in Afghanistan, and the delegates from different Indian Universities were mentored. The post forum tour was to a place called Murudeshwar famous for 123 ft. tall, Shiva statue, a Hindu God. The temple and the statue are surrounded by Arabian Sea from three sides.
